A checklist of common formatting changes when creating a new data source or adding attributes and measures to an existing one:
- Groupings: Hierarchies or Folders
- Ordering: Arrange the attributes within a hierarchy to provide useful drilldowns.
- Numbers: numeric and currency formats
- Address Fields: set the Geographic Role
- Dates: change the Data Type to Date (instead of Date & Time)
- Explanatory Comments: Comments will be visible to report editors, but not to end-users.
Less common:
- Fiscal Year: Set the Date fields' Fiscal Year Start (for fiscal years based on calendar months)
- Colors: Some attributes, with a static list of values, can have preset colors (or shapes), for a uniform user experience across all reports. For example: Territory or Product Line.
- Special Sorts: Some fields, with a static list of values, can be manually pre-sorted to display other than alphabetically. For example: GL Financials reporting sections, in which Revenue always comes before Expense.
